German Chocolate Cake Paula Deen. Add the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt to the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Line bottom of greased pan with coconut flakes.
Plan ahead because this cake takes time and effort to make. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix to combine. Melt chocolate in boiling water and add to the sugar-egg mixture.
Whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a small bowl; set.
Prepare the cake mix as directed on the box.
Sprinkle pecans on top of coconut. Pour the batter over the coconut and nuts. Sprinkle coconut and pecans over bottom of the cake pan.
